His main interest in Experimental Physics is the determination of the chemical-physical properties of surfaces and solids through the study of their electronic properties. The used techniques are principally electronic spectroscopies for the determination of the interaction between light molecules and surfaces and, moreover, to study peculiar electronic aspects. Briefly, his main research subjects are:
- CO, NO interaction with transition metal surfaces
- C60/metal surface interaction
- Hydrogen absorption with intermetallic compounds and nanostructured carbon
- Autoionizzation and resonant emission
- Photoelectron and Auger electron diffraction
- Development of new instruments and techniques.
Since 1996, his research activity deals with the hydrogen/metal systems and the nanostructured carbon at the Surface Electron Spectroscopy laboratory of the University of Calabria, Cosenza, Italy.
The used techniques are: Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS), Auger Spectroscopy (AES), X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS), Photoemission Spectroscopy (UPS, XPS) using laboratory and synchrotron radiation, Photoelectron Diffraction (XPD), Low Energy Ion Scattering (ISS).
Recently, he is involved in the realization of an Advanced Microscopy Laboratory equipped with a Transmission Electron Microscope with Energy filter (EELS-TEM) and a Variable Pressure Secondary Electron Microscope (e-SEM).
He is author of 63 publications on international journals and numerous publications on proceeding and communication to national and international congresses.
Raffaele G. Agostino: Associate Professor at the Physics Department of the University of Calabria (since 2005).
