Full Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Calabria.  Chair of the "Urban Hydraulic Center Studies (CSDU)", IAHR member. Her research interests are in the fields of urban hydrology, water resources, soil sciences, water treatment, water resource management, flood risk mitigation, sustainable urban drainage systems, and nature-based solutions approaches. She is the author of over than 200 peer-reviewed papers published on Italian and international journals and conference proceedings. She is an Editorial Board Member of the Hydrology journal, and she was/is Guest Editor for the journals Hydrology, Water, and Atmosphere. She was/is leader of several national and international research projects funded by the European Union and the Italian Ministry of Research.

Patrizia Piro is Full Professor of Hydraulic Constructions in the Civil Engineering degree course at Calabria University. Main research fields: hydraulic measurements, physical models and urban hydrology from both theoretical and experimental perspectives. Laboratory activity: realization of special equipment for the study of flow measurement devices, free surface flow in circular pipes and head losses in manholes, dam outlet modelling. Urban hydraulics; water quality and quantity; data-modelling and waste-water distribution system analysis, planning and management in urban catchments; urban drainage systems and environmental impact; eco-hydraulics and modelling; water resources and eco-systems management; flood control and land protection. Climatological causes of aridity. Knowledge of sedimentation characteristics; treatment and management of the CSOs ; distributed real time systems; Low-impact developments (LIDs); Influence of stratigraphy and slope on the drainage capacity of permeable pavements; hydraulic behaviour of green roof in catchment scale. She is the author of about 160 papers published in international journals or as conference proceedings in the fields of water resources, hydraulic constructions, environmental monitoring and prediction and mitigation of hydrogeological hazard and environmental engineering. Member as auditor of the Board of Directors of the Research Center on Urban Hydraulics (Centro Studi Deflussi Urbani (CSDU)) of the G.N.I. at Brescia University.
