Sandra Costanzo received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in Computer Engineering from the University of Calabria and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Reggio Calabria in 1996 and 2000, respectively. Since 1996 she has been with the Research Group in Applied Electromagnetics at the University of Calabria. Currently, she is an Associate Professor at University of Calabria, Cosenza, Italy. In the framework of the European School of Antennas, she was a teacher in the ACE course "Phased arrays and reflectarrays" held at TNO in 2005. Her research interests are focused on near-field far-field techniques, antenna measurement techniques, numerical methods in electromagnetic scattering, millimeter-wave antennas, reflectarrays, antenna analysis and synthesis, compact and wideband antennas, radar technologies, microwave biomedical applications, microwave imaging. She received the "Telecom" prize for the Best Laurea Thesis in 1996 and the "Best Academia & Research Application in Aerospace and Defense 2013” Award at the National Instruments Aerospace and Defense Forum 2013 for the Application “Software Defined Radar using the NI USRP 2920 platform”. She was Session Chair at various international conferences. Currently, she is 'Associate Editor' for the journals: IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, IEEE Access,IEEE Journal on Electromagnetics, RF, and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology. She is Senior Member of IEEE, member of IEEE MTT-10 Biological Effects and Medical Applications Committee, IEEE South Italy Geoscience and Remote Sensing Chapter, IEEE AP/ED/MTT North Italy Chapter, CNIT and SIEm. She has (co)authored more than 170 contributions in international journals and conferences.
Sandra Costanzo received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in Computer Engineering from the University of Calabria in 1996, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Reggio Calabria in 2000. Currently, she is an Associate Professor at University of Calabria, Italy, where she teaches the courses of electromagnetic waves propagation, remote sensing and radar systems, and electromagnetic diagnostics. In 2017, she awarded the Italian National Scientific Qualification for Full Professor position in the Academic Field “Campi Elettromagnetici”. In the framework of the European School of Antennas, she was a teacher in the ACE (Antenna Centre of Excellence) course "Phased arrays and reflectarrays", held at TNO, Nederlands, in 2005. She is Senior Member of IEEE, member of IEEE MTT-10 Biological Effects and Medical Applications Committee, IEEE South Italy Geoscience and Remote Sensing Chapter, IEEE AP/ED/MTT North Italy Chapter, CNIT (Consorzio Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni) and SIEm (Società Italiana di Elettromagnetismo). Her research themes include: - Antenna characterization by Near-Field Methods (phaseless methods, NF-FF transformations, holographic techniques); - Reflectarray Antennas (synthesis procedure, bandwidth improvements, miniaturized configurations); - Electromagnetic Scattering (iterative methods); - Millimeter-wave Materials, Circuits and Antennas (mm-wave characterization of materials, synthesis of mm-wave circuits and antennas); - Compact and wideband antennas; - Microwave imaging (phaseless methods); - Compressed sensing (array failures detection, enhancement of radar range resolution); - Microwave biomedical applications (microwave tomography for breast cancer detection, microwave sensors for non-invasive monitoring of biological parameters); - Radar (implementation of software-defined radar platform); - Metamaterials and/or micromachined circuits and antennas (EBG structures for the reduction of mutual coupling in printed antennas, synthesis of slot arrays on micromachined waveguides); - Dielectric characterization of materials (open-ended coaxial probe methods, free-space methods, resonator methods). Since 1996, she has been involved in many research projects funded by ESA, ASI, MIUR and private companies.
