Giovambattista Ianni works as an Associate Professor in computer science (italian scientific sector code: INF/01) at the Department of Mathematics of University of Calabria since 2011. He has been formerly Assistant professor at the same department since 2002. He received an M.Sc. degree cum laude in computer science engineering in 1998 and a Ph.D. degree in systems and computer science engineering in 2002. Currently, he is a teacher of the courses of "Computer Networks and Operating Systems" and "Computer Networks Security" within the curriculum in Computer Science at University of Calabria. He is currently responsible for the design and implementation of some linguistic extensions of the DLV system, one of the most prominent answer set programming systems. From 2004 to 2006, he has been a Visiting Researcher at the Vienna University of Technology, within the Institute for Information Systems, which he still collaborates with. He has been chair of the organizing committee of JELIA 2002 (and Editor of the proceedings volume) and LPNMR 2005. He has been Chair of the 3d Answer Set Programming Competition, and Track Chair and/or Member of many conference program committees such as IJCAI, ECAI, ISWC, ESWC, RuleML, ASWC, LPNMR, NMR, AGP, ESTC, and ICIW. As a scientific author, he published many papers in journals and international conferences such as Artificial Intelligence, ACM TOCL, IJCAI, AAAI and PODS. It is worth noting that some of his scientific papers have been selected as best paper (ESWC 2006, ASP 2003, LPNMR 2011). Ianni is currently interested in semantic web, knowledge representation, logic programming, with particular focus on answer set programming. He has been General Project Manager of the international EU-funded project INFOMIX and has many past and current involvements in national and international projects.
Giovambattista Ianni (born 1973). Current position. I am Associate Professor at Università della Calabria, Italy, since Dec. 2011. Education. I got, cum laude, a M.Sc. in Computer Science Engineering in 1998 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Systems Engineering in 2002. Research Career. From 2002 to 2011 I was Assistant Professor at Università della Calabria. From 2004 to 2006 I was guest researcher at the Institute for Information Systems of the Technical University of Vienna, which I still collaborate with. Teaching Career. I teach in the Course in Computer Science at Università della Calabria, as head of the courses in "Operating Systems and Networks" and "Network and Computer Security". I formerly headed the courses in "Introduction to the Computer Science", "Algorithms and Data Structures", "Operating Systems" and "Computer Networks". I've been tutorialist about "Answer Set Programming for the Semantic Web" at ESWC2006 and at ESTC2007, and I've been lecturer at the Reasoning Web School 2009. Awards and acknowledgements. Works I've been co-author of have been selected as best papers at the LPNMR 2011, ESWC 2006 and ASP2003 conferences. The paper about "Combining answer set programming with description logics for the Semantic Web", published on Artificial Intelligence, is acknowledged of more than 100 citations on Google Scholar, as well as my paper "A uniform integration of higher-order reasoning and external evaluations in answer-set programming" (IJCAI 2005). My paper on "Metaqueries: Semantics, complexity, and efficient algorithms", published on "Artificial Intelligence" has been rated as "Excellent research product" in the latest national evaluation of research quality (CIVR 2001-2003). My h-index is about 16-17 (source: Google Scholar) and I'm credited of about 1000 citations. Organizational Activity. I have been chair of the Third Answer Set Programming Competition, and track chair at ESWC 2012 and RuleML 2011. I co-chaired the organizing committee of LPNMR05, JELIA02 (of which I was proceedings' editor). I've been member of the PC of several mainstream events such as IJCAI, AAAI, ECAI, LPNMR, RR, RuleML, ISWC, ESWC, ASWC, NMR, AGP, ESTC, ICIW, and reviewer for AI Journal, ACM TOCL, IEEE TKDE, Journal of Semantic Web, Information Sciences and TPLP. I'm member of the editorial board of Advances in Artificial Intelligence. Participation to Research Projects and Scientific Activity. My research is currently focused on knowledge representation languages, hybrid formalisms, answer set programming and semantic web. I participate and participated to several international and national projects such as INFOMIX (IST-2001-33570), a project concerning data integration, in which I was General Project Manager of the European Consortium (its related SIGMOD 2005 paper is credited of more than 70 citations in Google Scholar); WASP (Working group on Answer Set Programming, IST-2001-37004); "Answer Set Programming for the Semantic Web", "Reasoning in Hybrid Knowledge Bases" and "Modular HEX-programs", which are projects funded by the Austrian Science Funds; "Logic based Knowledge representation languages" (INTERLINK II04CG8AGG), "Application and enhancement of Disjunctive Logic Programming" (PRIN 2006/019157), and "Inconsistency Management for Knowledge Integration Systems" (funded by WWTF, City of Wien). Also, I am member of the DLV team, a prominent Answer Set Programming solver, in which I coordinate the research and development of a number of extensions of the language. Publications. I'm co-author of more than 70 papers published on international journals and conferences, such as AI, ACM TOCL, TCS, AMAI, IJCAI, AAAI, PODS, SIGMOD, WWW, ICLP, LPNMR, ISWC, ESWC.
