Filippo Furfaro is Full Professor with the Department of Computer Engineering, Modeling, Electronics, and Systems Engineering at University of Calabria, and he is the Coordinator of the Unified Council of the Bachelor and Master Degree Programs in Computer Engineering. He earned his PhD in Systems and Computer Engineering from the University of Calabria, defending a thesis titled "Languages and techniques for querying semistructured data and multidimensional data". His research activity has covered various topics in the field, including argumentation, database theory, process mining, logic programming, management of inconsistent data, semistructured data, query languages for XML data, compression of multidimensional data, privacy management in databases, and grid computing. He has published the results of his research in many leading journals in the field, including Journal of the ACM, Artificial Intelligence, ACM Transactions on Database Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Information Systems, Information and Computation, and in the proceedings of many prestigious international conferences, including IJCAI, VLDB, KR, ICDE, ICDT, ECAI, CAISE, EDBT. He has also been a member of the program committee of several international conferences and is an associate editor of the journal Knowledge and Information Systems (published by Springer). He is a founding member of the university spin-off Itaca s.r.l.
