Ester Zumpano (http://wwwinfo.deis.unical.it/~zumpano/) is an associate professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Calabria, Italy. Former, she has
been a researcher at the same Faculty.
She received the Laurea degree in Computer Engineering in 1998 at the University of Calabria and the PhD degree in computer and systems engineering in 2003 with
a thesis entitled "Integrating, Querying and Repairing Inconsisent Databases" at the University of Calabria.
Her main research interests are:

- Artificial Intelligence
- Semantic web
She has been a reviewer for numerous national and international conferences, books and journals. Among the most relevant conferences there are Logics in Artificial
Intelligence (JELIA), Logic Programming and Nonmonotonic Reasoning (LPNMR), Intern. Conference on Database Theory (ICDT), Intern. Conference on Data
Engineering (ICDE), ACM Symposium on Applied Computing (SAC) and among journals Information Systems, Theory and Practice of Logic Programming (TPLP),
IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering (TKDE).
A paper of which she is co-author, entitled Declarative Semantics of Production Rules for Integrity Maintenance, received the award for best work in the Conference
ICLP (Intern Conf. of Logic Programming) in 2006.
She has been Organizing Chair for the Eleventh National Conference SEBD held in Cetraro (CS) in June 2003 and has been a member of the organizing committee
of the Eighth edition of the European Conference on Logics in Artificial Intelligence (LPNMR) held in Cosenza in September 2002. Since 2006 she is a member of
the Steering Committee of the Conference ADBIS: East European Conference on Advances in Databases and Information Systems.
She is author of over 70 publications appeared in proceedings of prestigious international conferences, as the International Conference of Logic Programming
(ICLP) and important journals such as IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Theory and Practice of Logic Programming, Data & Knowledge
Engineering. Moreover, she is author of two book chapters.
She has joined several important projects, among these: the project PRIN "D2I: Integration, Warehousing and Mining heterogeneous sources" (years 2000-2002); the
ESF project "TRAME: Transfer of Teaching Methods for Innovative Enterprise"; the ESF project "VIROLAB: A Virtual Laboratory for Decision
Support in Viral Disease", the project P2PDBMS and the project PIA - Pacchetti Integrati di Agevolazione” e “ Contratti di Investimento Industria, Servizi e
Artigianato", funded by Calabria Region for the integration and querying of databases in P2P systems; the project TETRIS, PROGRAMMA OPERATIVO
NAZIONALE RICERCA E COMPETITIVITÀ 2007-2013" ; the project TOCAI.it - FIRB 2006; the project OpenKnowTech, DM 21301, founded by MIUR.
She has established in recent years collaboration with researchers operating in several National institutions including DIMET of the University Mediterranea of
Reggio Calabria, Department of Science of the University G. D'Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara. The unit has also a number of international collaborations including the
one with Prof. Miroslaw Truszczynski of the Department of Computer Science, University of Kentucky - Lexington, KY; Prof. Peter Sloot of the Computation
Science, University of Amsterdam, Science Faculty; moreover, an agreement with Prof. Florin Radulescu, who works at the University of Rome Tor Vergata and the
University of Bucharest, is currently being drawn up.
She collaborates with several private companies and public institutions in which were also offered internships and thesis.
She supervised many BsC, MsC thesis and PhD theses.
She has taught in the faculty of Engineering, Political Science and Literature and Philosophy of the University of Calabria, and in numerous master.
