Luigi Palopoli has been a full professor of computer science (group ING/INF-05) since the year 2000. He works at Universita' della Calabria, DIMES Department. Currently, he chairs his department. His research interests include techniques for knowledge representation, databases theory and applications, data mining, and bioinformatics. In the framework of coordination activities he carried out for some recent research project, he has also been interested in problems related to data warehouse design and in the development of semantic-based Web-search engines and content management. In past years, he was involved in research regarding logic database languages and various issues related to knowledge representation. He authored more than 140 scientific papers published in journals, books and conference procedings. Luigi Palopoli has active research collaboration with several national and international research institutions. He was visiting scientist at the Computer Science Dept. of the University of California at Los Angeles, at the AT&T Laboratories in Florham Park (USA), at the Computing Lab of Oxford University and at the Information Systems Dept. of the Technical University of Wien. In recent years he acted as coordinator in a PRIN 2003 project in bioinformatics and in a project regarding support methods for e-Government funded under L. 297. He has also served in the program committee of several international conferences.

Research interests and teaching activities His research interests are in the areas of artificial intelligence, databases, bioinformatics. In his career he published over 150 papers that appeared in international scientific journals and conference proceedings. Palopoli is an associate editor of the journals AI Communications (IOS press) and Network Modeling Analysis in Health Informatics and Bioinformatics (Springer) and “editor” of the journal “Scientific Reports” (Springer Nature). Since 1991 has carried out an ample teaching activity in universities and other institutions. He has been the advisor of ten PhD students and of over one hundred MS student. In details, he taught the following courses: • Computer architectures I and II: 26 editions from 1994 to 2015 • Computer programming: 15 editions from 1995 to 2018 • Artificial Intelligence: 16 editions from 2003 to 2019 • Advanced information systems: 13 editions from 2003 to 2010 • Several editions of other courses (Information systems, Software engineering) Presently, he teaches the classes of Artificial Intelligence and that of Theoretical Computer Science for the MSc in Computer Engineering and Elements of Computational Mathematics for the BSc in Computer Engineering. Supervision of Master Theses and Doctoral Dissertations Since 1993, Luigi Palopoli suprvised more than 100 master theses and some ten theses. Some of his advisees have developed their carrer in various universities: - Domenico Ursino currently is full professor at Università Politecnica delle Marche. - Giovambattista Ianni, Fabrizio Angiulli e Giorgio Terracina currently are full professors at Università della Calabria. - S.E. Rombo currently is associate professor at Università degli Studi di Palermo. - Alfredo Garro, Fabio Fassetti e Valeria Fionda currently are associate professors at Università della Calabria. - Enrico Malizia currently is assistant professor at Università di Bologna. - Alessia Amelio currently is assistant professor at Università di Chieti.
