Serena Dato (SD) is  Associate Professor in Genetics at the Uniiversity of Calabria since October 2022. She obtained her degree in Biological Science on March 2001 at the University of Calabria with 110/100 with praise. On December 2004 she achieved the PhD in Molecular Bio-pathology at the University of Calabria; during her PhD studies she attended several international courses and worked at the Laboratory of Survival of Prof J. Vaupel at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock (Germany). From September 2006 to September 2022 she has been an Assistant Professor at the Unical Department of Cell Biology before and DiBest after, as reference teacher for several Courses in Genetics (MD in Biological Sciences and Technologies) and previously the Course in Human Genetis and Genomics (MD in Biology). Actually she teaches Genetics for the Bachelor Course in Biotechnology. She was tutor of several thesis for Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences, for MD in Biology and co-tutor in PhD thesis in Molecular Bio-pathology and Life Sciences. Her research interests are focused on the study of human longevity and in particular on the development of experimental designs and new analytical approaches for the study of the genetic component in human longevity. To this purpose, during her career, she explored different analytical methodologies, from case-control studies to the integration of demographical to genetic data, developing an algorithm for applying the genetic-demographic approach to cross-sectional samples. She has been involved in the several European research projects. In September 2008 since October 2009 she was Visiting Researcher at Aging Research Center of Epidemiology Institute, Southern Denmark University, working at high-throughtput by genotyping Illumina platform of candidate SNPs for human longevity. She is coauthor of more than 58 peer-reviewed papers, referee for several journal in the field of Biogerontoly, like Aging Cell and MAD and Editorial board member of Journals like Frontiers in Genetics, Journal of Aging and Longevity, GeneS. She is member of the Italian Genetics Association.
