Teaching activity
Dr. Daniela Amelio, from the date of entry into the role (2006-2007 academic year), has carried out teaching activities as a Lecturer in charge of the course of Human Anatomy for the Degree Course in Scientific Information on Drugs at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Sciences of Nutrition and Health (FSNS) of Unical (as better specified in the chronology of the teaching activity). Subsequently (2012-2015) she was professor in charge of the course of Cellular and Tissue Biotechnology, Degree Course in Biological Sciences and Technologies, (DiBEST, Unical). From 2015 to the present, he has held the role of Lecturer in charge of teaching Human Anatomy with elements of Pathological Anatomy, Master's Degree Course in Biology and Forensic Biology, (Di-BEST, Unical).
Since 2008, as a member of the Academic Board, he has carried out teaching activities for the PhD course in "Life Science and Technology" (formerly Life Sciences, Animal Biology and then Doctoral School in "Life Sciences"). The teaching activity, in addition to the PhD, was also carried out in other post-graduate and/or advanced training courses such as: the I and II level Master "Applicative aspects of food and clinical nutrition", the " Master in Biotechnology" and the "Industrial Research Project PON01_00937" (see "Chronology of teaching activity)
Dr. Amelio also carried out exercises in Human Anatomy for the Degree Course in Pharmacy, (F.S.N.S), Unical, and for the courses of: Physiology II, Experimental Biology II, Principles of Experimental Biology, Laboratory of Cell Biology and Organismal, for the degree courses in Biological Sciences and Natural Sciences, at the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences (Unical). Dr. Amelio has carried out additional lessons, supplementary seminars and practical exercises within the official courses of PHYSIOLOGY for students of the Degree Course in Biological Sciences and Technologies, Di-BEST, UNICAL (see history of teaching activities).
Scientific Activity
Among the various lines of research followed by Dr. Amelio, the NOS/NO system on isolated organs of fish adapted to live in extreme conditions such as lungfish and Antarctic fish is of great importance. The research activity conducted on Lungfish is part of a multi-year collaboration with the University of Singapore (Prof. Ip), while the Antarctic species have been studied thanks to the PNRA (National Antarctic Research Project) of which, Dr. Amelio, has been a member for several years. Furthermore, the research activity concerns the structural (Prof. Icardo) and molecular rearrangement of organs such as the heart, kidney, gills, lungs and skin of Protopterus in aquatic conditions and during periods of drought (aestivation). Dr. Amelio's research lines also concerned the mammalian heart (rat) on which immunolocalization studies were conducted both on isolated cells cultured in 3D (MATRIGEL) and on tissues in order to evaluate the effects of known cardiac peptides such as Vasostatin, Chromogranin, Bio-Spread Oil, the antioxidant protein Selenoprotein T PSEL-T and cardiotoxic drugs (doxorubicin). The research activity is evidenced by the numerous papers published in international journals and by the many communications at international congresses (see "Complete list of publications"). The details of the searches are reported in the Section "Description of the searches
Research summary
1. Cardiac and organ rearrangement in extreme environments: morpho-functional organ plasticity of Protopterus dolloi.

Scientific collaborations
In addition to the numerous collaborations with colleagues belonging to Unical, and pertaining to different departments and different scientific-disciplinary sectors, Dr. Amelio's research takes place in scientific synergy with highly important national and international research laboratories. In particular, the research concerning the morpho-functional (structural, ultrastructural, molecular) aspects of cardiac and organ remodeling in relation to both development and extreme environments, are carried out in the context of a collaboration with the Human Anatomy laboratories of the 'Institute of Experimental Biomedicine and Clinical Neurosciences of the University of Palermo (Prof. G. Zummo, Prof. F. Cappello), with the Anatomy laboratories of the University of Cantabria, Santander, Spain (Prof. J. M. Icardo), and with the A. Dohrn Zoological Station of Naples. As far as research on CgA and its peptides is concerned, they make use of the collaboration with the laboratories of the San Raffaele Scientific Institute (DIBIT) of Milan (Prof. A. Corti), of the Dept. of Medicine and Center of Molecular Genetics, University of California, San Diego (Prof. S. Mahata), of the Institute for fiskeri-og marinbiologi HØYTEKNOLOGI-SENTERET, University of Bergen, Norway (Prof. A. Nylund; Prof. K.B.
