Patrizia D'Aquila obtained the master’s degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Calabria in 2007, with a thesis in genetics entitled "Role of mitochondrial DNA variability in the modulation of HSP60 gene expression". In 2011 she obtained the title of PhD in "Molecular Bio-Pathology" with a thesis entitled "The mitochondrial function: a crossroad for the genetic and epigenetic regulation of aging and age-related phenomena".

Currently, she is Associate Professor (BIO18-Genetics) at the University of Calabria and is author of 46 publications in extenso and numerous Communications at national and international congresses (H-index 23, 1644 citations).

She has carried out his scientific activity mainly in the field of genetics of human longevity, contributing to the identification of genetic and epigenetic biomarkers involved in determining the quality of aging. Specifically, PD have collaborated on the following lines of research:

- Genetic and epigenetic aspects of aging and age-related traits.

- Role of circulating bacterial DNA (BB-DNA) as a biomarker of aging and age-related pathologies.

- Interaction between the microbiota and the host.

- Molecular mechanisms of the antibiotic resistance phenomenon.
