Eugenio Nicotra (EN) is a Researcher in Geochemistry and Volcanology (SSD GEO/08) at the Department of Biology ecology and Earth Sciences at the University of Calabria since 2021.

EN skills are mainly referred to the field of volcanology, with particular reference to pre-eruptive styles, eruption trigger, magma storage ascent dynamics and timescales, architecture of magma plumbing systems, nature of primary magmas and partial melting processes. EN worked on different volcanic systems over the world, with particular focus on Etna, Aeolian Islands, Iceland, Canary islands, Main Ethiopian Rift, Katchatka, Pantelleria, Tertiary magmatism in China and submarine volcanism in the Tirrhenyan Sea.

On 2010 EN won the “PhD Thesis Award” from the SIMP (Società Italiana di Mineralogia e Petrologia) for the best PhD Thesys in the fields of Petrography, Petrology, Mineralogy and Volcanology, In the 2013 EN won the SIMP "Angelo Bianchi" 2013 Award for its scientific activity during the previous two years in the field of petrography and petrology.Actually, he is the coordinator of the PRIN 2022 funds for the AWARE Project, having as main focus all petrological and magmatological aspects of Marsili seamount.

During its academic life EN carried out several (>10) international and national scientific collaborations, and he has been Convener at national and international congresses and conferences. EN is co-author of 85 publications, of which 28 on international and national scientific journals and 57 abstract at international and national conferences.
