Francesco Perri graduated from University of Calabria (Italy) in 2002 with an MSc in Geological Sciences and obtained a PhD in Earth Sciences from the University of Basilicata (Italy) in 2006. He has been Research assistantships in Geology, Stratigraphy, Sedimentary Petrology, Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Petrography (University of Basilicata and University of Calabria, Italy). He was appointed in 2013 of Matter Expert for SSD GEO/02, Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Sciences, University of Calabria. Francesco has worked for the CNR-IRPI (National Research Council) at Cosenza (Italy).

He is currently an Associate Professor in Geology (SSD GEO/02), at the Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Sciences, University of Calabria, and he collaborates with CNR-IRPI (National Research Council) at Cosenza (Italy). He has obtained the national scientific qualification as Full Professor for the competition sector 04/A2. He is currently the Vice-Coordinator of the BSc-MSc Degrees in Geological Sciences (University of Calabria), he is Delegate for 'Outgoing Orientation' of the DiBEST, and member of the QA (Quality Assicuration) Commission of the DiBEST, and he is a member of the PhD in Environmental, Construction and Energy Sciences and Engineering (SIACE), University of Calabria.

Francesco collaborates with the CNR-IRPI (National Research Council) of Cosenza (Italy), and he worked on several national projects and organized several National Congresses (SIMP 2002 and SGI 2012) and Workshop (on ‘Quantitative models in sediment generation’, 2010). The main field areas of research are southern and central Italy, Spain, Morocco, Greece and Czech Republic. The main areas of research specialization are sedimentary geochemistry, clay mineralogy, sedimentology, provenance and diagenesis of clastic sediments, palaeogeographic, palaeotectonic and paleoclimatic reconstructions, weathering processes of crystalline rocks, thermal and burial history of sedimentary basins, interplay of tectonics, erosion and sedimentation, regional geology.

Interdisciplinary scientific collaboration and strong partnership working with researchers and professors of the University AbdelMalek Essaadi (Morocco), University of Alicante, University of Madrid and University of Granada (Spain), University of Göttingen (Germany), Waseda University (Japan) and other Italian Universities, underpin all of the Francesco’s research, culminating in several international publications and numerous conference presentations to date.

He received the ‘Luigi dell’Anna’ 2009 Award sponsored by the Associazione Italiana per lo Studio delle Argille (AISA). In 2012 he received the ‘Giorgio Dal Piaz’ Award sponsored by the Società Geologica Italiana (SGI). He, further, received the Reviewer Certificate by Basin Research (Wiley) for reviewing activity in 2016, and the Certificate of Recognition by ACS (American Chemical Society) Publications Awards for ACS publications reviewing activity in 2015. He was and is currently a reviewer of several national and international journals.
