He was a member of the editorial board and guest editor of journals inserted in the Scopus or WoS database, reviewer for a great number of international journals, ANVUR reviewer for the VQR 2011-14 and member of national and international technical committees. He was one of the founding partners of the academic spin-off called SIRiA (Integrated Services and Research for Environment). Management and service activities include, among others, participation in numerous selection boards, student support activities, management activities, support to emergency due to natural events, and representation roles.
Enrico Conte is full professor of Geotechnical Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Calabria. He is the coordinator of the Council for the Bachelor Degree and the Master Degree in Civil Engineering, and a member of the commission for the National Scientific Qualification (ASN) in the competition sector 08/B1- Geotechnics, for the period 2021-2023. TEACHING ACTIVITY He has carried out a long and intense teaching activity in the context of the degree programs in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, at the University of Calabria. Specifically, he held the following courses: Foundation Engineering, since 1993 Earth Retaining Structures, since 2001 Measures for Landslide Mitigation, from 2005 to 2010 Design of Geotechnical Structures, from 2004 to 2011 He served as tutor of some hundreds of dissertations for the Master Degree in Civil Engineering, Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Bachelor Degree in Environment Engineering, Master Degree in Civil Engineering and Master Degree in Environment Engineering. He was also tutor of many students during their stage at public institutions and private companies. Member of the academic board of the PhD Course in Geotechnical Engineering, subsequently Geotechnical and Chemical Materials Engineering, at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria from 2000 to 2012, where he served as supervisor of five PhD students. Since 2012, he is a member of the academic board of the PhD Course in Civil and Industrial Engineering (DICI), at the University of Calabria. For the same PhD Course, he served as the coordinator in the period 2020-2023. He actively contributed to masters and professional training courses, and was invited by various institutions to hold seminars and conferences on topics of geotechnical engineering. RESEARCH ACTIVITY The research activity concerns various topics of geotechnical engineering. The main ones are: geological and topographic effects on the seismic site response soil liquefaction and earthquake-induced permanent deformations of slopes seismic response of earth structures and dams seismic wave propagation in partially saturated porous media bearing capacity and settlements of shallow and deep foundations consolidation processes in saturated and partially saturated soils soil-structure interaction under static and dynamic loads slope stability analysis simulation of the pre-failure, failure, post-failure and reactivation stages of landslides ground improvement techniques for stabilising soils and slopes. The research activity is documented by many papers published in the conference proceedings and key journals in the field of geotechnical engineering. Some results of his studies are mentioned in noteworthy books and handbooks. Among the awards received for his scientific activity, it is worth mentioning a paper selected as "Best Paper" among the articles published in the international journal of Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering (Elsevier Ed.) in 2000, and a paper nominated as one of the most representative articles in the field of the numerical methods applied to geotechnical engineering, published in Soils and Foundations (Japanese Geotechnical Society). His papers submitted to VQR 2004-2010, VQR 2011-2014 and VQR 2015-2019 were ranked with the highest rating. He also received the Individual Funding of Basic Research Activities for the papers published in the period 2012-2016 (Italian Law 232/2016). He was included in the list of world’s top 2% scientists" in the field of Engineering, published by the Plos Biology Journal and by Stanford University, both for the annual ranking and for that relating to the academic career. He is member of the editorial board of the Rivista Italiana di Geotecnica, academic editor of Mathematical Problems in Engineering and guest editor of two Special Issues of Water; all these journals are registered in the database Scopus or WoS. He served as reviewer for many international journals, and for several research products submitted for the VQR 2011-14. Member of the scientific committee for scientific conferences, the Gruppo Nazionale per la Difesa dalle Catastrofi Idrogeologiche, the Technical Committee TC 302 (International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering), and the scientific board of the Italian Geotechnical Society. He was one of the founding partners of the academic spin-off called SIRiA (Integrated Services and Research for Environment) operating in the field of prevention, monitoring and mitigation of environmental, seismic and hydrogeological hazards. He is a member of the Italian Geotechnical Association and of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He took part in scientific studies commissioned by important public institutions, such as the Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri, through the Commissario Delegato for the hydrogeological emergency in Calabria, and the Dipartimento Nazionale della Protezione Civile. In addition, he took part in the following research projects: - “Deformazioni gravitative dei versanti nell’Italia centro-meridionale”, PRIN 1998.
