Dr. Domenico Gargano (PhD.) is a permanent researcher in Systematic Botany at the Dep. of Biology, Ecology and Earth Sciences of University of Calabria since 01 November 2007. Member of the board of the doctoral course ‘Life Science and Technology’ at the University of Calabria, he was part of the evaluation committee of national and international doctoral programs in other Italian universities. Teaching activity deals with plant systematics, monitoring and conservation of plant species. Research interests are focused on processes involved in the origin and maintenance of vascular plant diversity, including studies on plant mating systems, plant population fitness, plant biotic interactions, and quantitative evaluation of plant conservation status. He participated to numerous national and international programs addressing those research topics. Research outcome were disseminated in more than 100 publications including papers published on international and national journals, and contributions to books, and with the attendance to national and international conferences. He is a referee of various international journals. Since 2002, Domenico Gargano is member of the Italian Botanical Society, for which he has coordinated the Working group for Nature Conservation from 2012 to 2017, by contributing to relevant activities for the conservation of plant diversity in Italy, as the production of the new red list of the Italian vascular flora.
