Alfredo GARRO – Holds a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Systems and Computer Engineering. He has been a tenured Associate Professor (Second Tier) in the Scientific Disciplinary Sector IINF-05/A (Information Processing Systems), formerly ING-INF/05, since December 30, 2011, and is currently serving at the Department of Civil Engineering (DInCi) of the University of Calabria.

He holds the Italian National Scientific Qualification (ASN) as Full Professor in the SSD IINF-05/A (Information Processing Systems), formerly ING-INF/05.

From January to September 2016, he was a Visiting Professor at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston (TX, USA), within the Software, Robotics, and Simulation Division (ER). He served as President (2020–2021 term) of the Italian Association for Systems Engineering (AISE) – the Italian Chapter of INCOSE. Within AISE, he also served as Vice-President (2018–2019) and Technical Director (2016–2017).

In October 2016, he took part in the CERN Training Programme in Geneva as one of the 10 Italian Engineers selected by the National Council of Engineers (CNI) among 539 applicants.

From January 2005 to December 2011, he was a Researcher in Information Processing Systems at the Department of Electronics, Computer Science, and Systems (DEIS) of the University of Calabria.

From September 1999 to September 2001, he was a Researcher at CSELT in Turin (Telecom Italia Research and Development Labs). From 2001 to 2005, he collaborated with the Institute for High-Performance Computing and Networking (ICAR) of the National Research Council (CNR).

He is the author of over 120 publications in international journals, book chapters, and proceedings of international and national conferences (SCOPUS).

He serves as Vice Chair of both the Space Reference Federation Object Model (SpaceFOM) Product Development Group (PDG) and the Product Support Group (PSG) within the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO), contributing to the development of simulation standards for distributed computing environments, particularly in the aerospace domain.

He was National Coordinator for Italy and a member of the Executive Committee of the European ITEA2 MODRIO project (Model Driven Physical Systems Operation).

He is a member of the National Institute for Advanced Mathematics “Francesco Severi”.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and a member of the following IEEE societies: IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Reliability Society, and IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society.
