Consolato Carlo Versace graduated in Physics at the University of Calabria in 1986 and obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Messina in 1992. He has been Associate Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Calabria since 2001 and has been the Coordinator of the Doctorate Programme in Sciences and Technologies of Mesophases and Molecular Materials since 2006. Carlo has been a member of the executive board of the Italian Liquid Crystal Society (SICL) since 2003 and is referee of Europhysics Letters, Applied Physics Letters, The Journal of Applied Physics, Physical Review E, Optical Engineering (SPIE), Molecular Crystals Liquid Crystals and Journal of Chemical Physics. His scientific research interests and expertise are in the fields of structure and dynamics of mesophases, optics of liquid crystals, electro-optics of nematic liquid crystals, electroconductive instabilities and turbulence in nematic liquid crystals and the deposition and characterization of thin films. The techniques he has used range from optical polarized microscopy, photon self-beating spectroscopy, quasielastic neutron scattering, neutron reflectometry, Optical Stokes polarimetry and ellipsometory, calorimetry to impedance spectroscopy. He has co-authored 77 articles in Physics, more than 100 scientific communications at conferences and co-authored three Italian patents.
