Dr Francesca Aiello is an Assistant Professor SSD CHIM08 Department of Pharmacy and Health and Nutrition Sciences University of Calabria- 87036- Rende francesca.aiello@unical. Fraduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Siena in 1998 and 1999 she obtained the qualification to Pharmacist. From 1999 to 2004 she benefited from three scholarships and a two-year research grant, related to the SSD CHIM 08. From October 2004 until August 2005 she was Visiting Scholar in the laboratory of Prof. Nouri Neamati at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, University of Southern California, 1985 Zonal Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90089, USA . Since 2006 she is Assistant Professor for the CHIM / 08 PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY sector. MAIN RESEARCH LINES - synthesis of selective ligands of GPCRs and TRPVs; - The design and synthesis of small molecules with anticancer activity; - The search for new synthesis methods for obtaining aromatic heterocyclic compounds; - Extraction and semi-synthesis of structural analogues of molecules of natural origin, with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity. _ Functional Foods.- TRPV1 ligands N° FI2014A000096.

PERSONAL STATEMENT. Assistant Professor with high experience in the Organic Synthesis inspired to green chemistry and innovative/eco-friendly methods of extraction of natural compounds from agri-chemical and foods wastes, interesting for new therapeutics and functional foods preparations. Graduated in 1998 with a degree in Toxicological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, possess Advanced Chromatographic techniques (GCMS) spectroscopic magnetic resonance (1H and 13 C NMR), and infra-red (FTIR) skills. The preferred targets are TRPVs and GPCR’s and their involvement in Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity, Pain, and Wound healing. Investigation of new natural and synthetic molecules endowing cardiovascular activities. Author of 88 Documents (Article70, Review12, Book Chapter4), among these the 75% belonging to first quartile (Q1); 1412 Citations by 1084 documents, 19 h-index. The Most contributed Topics 2016–2020 are: Grape Pomace; Antioxidant; Vitis 5 documents; Fasiglifam; Agonist; Nonesterified Fatty Acids 4 documents; Quercetin; Flavanols; Flavonoid 2 documents. The research activity falls in the fields of Medicinal Chemistry and mainly in the Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology (58 papers), Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutics (55 papers), Chemistry (40 papers), Agricultural and Biological Sciences (12 papers).
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS and AWARDS.
In 2021 she won a Best Paper Award for the article Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activities of Flavanones from Glycyrrhiza glabra L. (licorice) Leaf Phytocomplexes: Identification of Licoflavanone as a Modulator of NF-kB/MAPK Pathway (doi: 10.3390/antiox8060186). In 2020 due to the novelty of the molecules synthesized and published in Discovery of 1,4-Naphtoquinones as a New Class of Antiproliferative Agents Targeting GPR55, ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2019,10,402-406, she gets recognition by CAS REGISTRY INNOVATOR. She is CEO of the Start-Up QLB Health Sciences S.r.l.s and in 2018 she received the recognition Best Technology Start-Ups established by concession of the President of the Italian Republic, at the Foundation COTEC for the category University and Public Research. In the 2017 she won the Clinic Center Life Sciences Award participating in the PNI 2017 with an innovative idea named RyGoldZip.
