Donatella Armentano (WoS ID: E-9054-2016 - SCOPUS ID: 6603735967 - orcid.org/0000-0002-8502-8074) received her Degree in Chemistry, cum Laude, from the University of Calabria, in the A. A. 1996/1997 and her Ph.D. (with excellent award) in “Chemical Science” at the same university in 2001. She acquired a solid background in synthesis and structural characterization of coordination compounds and X-ray crystallography.
From 2002 to 2004 she worked, with a post-doctoral fellowship, in the Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry and X-Ray Diffractometry, of University of Calabria spending one year, from 2003 to 2004 in Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Valencia, under the supervision of Prof. Miguel Julve, learning more about coordination chemistry, magnetic properties of coordination compounds and study of structure-properties relationship by a multi-technique approach.
In 2005 - 2016 she was Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science of the University of Calabria and in 2016 - 2021 Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies (CTC) at the same University where, since 2022, she is Full Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry.
Her research is aimed at the synthesis together with X-ray structural characterization of coordination compounds. At the present she runs her research activity in the field of post-synthetic methods and cutting-edge X-ray crystallography applied technique in MOFs. Her research is set at the intersection of organic and inorganic solid-state chemistry, physical chemistry, materials science. The research hinges on the design of new materials through molecular design principles, relying on development of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as nano-reactors for capture, separation new catalytically active species. Collectively, these efforts are motivated by an interest in the design of new functional materials - from separations media to functional materials for environmental cleaning.
She is Leader of a group expert in synthesis and advanced X-ray structural characterization of porous materials. Leader of the Laboratory of X-ray Diffraction facility awarded in 2018 as the best performant Laboratory of Unical in terms of scientific papers and services. She has coauthored 3 Patents (1 Granted in 2020 and 2 filed in 2021) and 160 articles that have been cited more than 4800 (SCOPUS, March 2022) times, in the most prestigious journals in the field of Chemistry and Materials Science (Nat. Mater. (1); Acc. Chem.Res. (1); Coord. Chem. Rev. (2); Adv. Funct. Mater. (2); J. Am. Chem. Soc. (10); Nat. Commun. (1); Angew. Chem. (5); Mater. Horiz. (1); Chem. Mater. (2); J. Mater. Chem. A (3); Chem. Sci. (2); Chem. Commun. (7); Chem. Eur. J. (10); etc) | The majority number of publications belong to the first quartile and have illustrated several covers of prestigious journals and classified as Hot or Highlights | H-index value of 39 (Web of Science, March 2022) | More than 80 contributions presented at national and international scientific meetings, including several invited talk (see below) and seminars | She was invited to prepare 7 journal covers: -Inorganic Chemistry, 2002 – Dalton Transactions, 2008 – Dalton Transactions, 2011, – Chemistry, A European Journal, 2016 – Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2017 –ChemCatChem 2021, 2021 –AdvMaterInterfaces 2021.
She has supervised 4 Ph.D Thesis|27 thesis projects for Bachelor and 15 for Master degree courses in Chemistry and Material Science at University of Calabria.| 3 short-time projects in SOLEIL during the period 23/02/2016 to 31/07/2016 and 10 in DIAMOND from 04/2017 to 09/2020 | Reviewer of leading scientific and chemistry journals (Science, Chem. Sci., JACS, Angew,…).|
