Anita Giglio is currently an Associate Professor of Zoology in the Department of Biology, Ecology and Earth Science, University of Calabria and research group head (2007 to present) of the Laboratory of Morpho-Functional Entomology.

She completed his BSc degree in Biology (1995) and PhD degree in Animal Science (2000) from the dept of Ecology, University of Calabria (Italy) She conducted postdoctoral studies in morphology and functional adaptations of carabid sensorial system at the University of Calabria, University of Trieste, University of Cagliari and University of Kiel (Germany) and in insect immunology at the University of Calabria and University of Trieste. She has been Visiting Research at University of Kiel (2002) (Germany) and at the University of Muenster (2019) (Germany).

She has published scientific papers in high impact journals (Scopus Author ID: 15055548400; Researcher ID: A-1382-2016) and reviewed many studies in her area of specialization (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6513-5027). Her main research focus on i) comparative morpho-functional adaptations and integrative physiology, specifically the mechanisms by which insects respond to environmental change to maintain homeostasis; ii) immunological and physiological responses of animals to anthropogenic stress factors in their environments, and the ecological, ecotoxicological (pesticide side effects, metal accumulation), and evolutionary implications of these mechanisms; iii) interspecific relationship (predation, parasite, mutualism in relation to host microbiome); iv) monitoring of wild pollinator biodiversity in natural area (in collaboration with the Sila National Park and private conventional and biological farms, Calabria). A great variety of methods was employed including light and electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), X-ray tomography, electrophysiology, chemical and biochemical analyses. She has been involved in various local, national and international projects.

Results of research are presented at the annual meeting of Unione Zologica Italiana, Società di Entomologia, Società di Etologia, European Congress of Entomology, European Carabidologists meeting and at the Accademia Nazionale di Entomologia (2021). She organized the annual meeting of Italian Association of Developmental and Comparative Immunobiology (2019) and Unione Zologica Italiana (2002, 2018,2021,2023). She is the secretary treasurer of the Unione Zologica Italiana (2018-2025) and a member of Italian Society of Entomology.

She has taught classes in Biology degrees (Biology, Biodiversity, Zoology) and Natural Sciences (Entomology practice, Ethology), as well as doctorate in Life Science and Graduate school for training secondary school teachers (Biology, Genetic, Zoology, Ecology) at the University of Calabria. She has supervised training activities for students, undergraduates, and doctoral dissertations. She is a member of the doctoral college in Life Science and Technology and a member of the teaching committee for the Biology and Biotechnology course of study.
