T. M. R. Regina received her degree in Biological Sciences on Febrary 14th 1994 at the University of Calabria. In the 2001, after completing a PhD program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the joined Universities of Bari and Calabria, she received a three-year postdoctoral fellow in Biochemistry at the Science Faculty of the University of Calabria. Since the 2008, she has a researcher position in Biochemistry (subject BIO/10) at the Science Faculty of the University of Calabria. She is presently working in the Cell Biology Department and teaching for undergraduate and graduate students of the School of Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Material Sciences of the Calabria University.
Her research focuses on the structure, expression and evolution of mitochondrial genes in both seed and flowering plants. In particular, the RNA editing and splicing mechanisms, the two key biochemical processes that affect gene expression in plant organelles, are its major interest.
In addition, her long-term goal is to better understand how non-coding regions interrupting a number of plant mitochondrial genes contribute to the rapid structural evolution and functional diversity of plant mitochondrial genomes.
