The 8th AIRO Young Workshop will be held at the University of Calabria.
The Campus, founded in 1968, is located among the hills of Rende, and it covers a green area of approximately 200 hectares. UniCal is distinguished by its particular structure: an approximately 1,5 km long bridge, called “Ponte Pietro Bucci”, represents the backbone of the Campus; this bridge is surrounded by buildings, known as 'Cubes', having a distinctive dark brown-red colour, that host Departments, Offices, Laboratories, Classrooms, Libraries, Cinemas and Theatres.
The workshop is held at the University Club Convention Centre, located near the Rectorate buildings, placed about halfway along Ponte Pietro Bucci.

UniCal can be reached in different ways, depending on the type of transport chosen:
By car: take the A2 Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway → Exit Rende - Cosenza Nord, and follow the road signs for “Università”. It takes 2 minutes from the highway exit to the University. For the next steps, please refer to section: How to get to the workshop venue and parking spaces.
By train: the nearest station is Castiglione Cosentino, marked with the red pin on the 8th AIROYoung Map, and it is located about 3 km from UniCal. It is directly connected to the railway nodes of Paola (Tyrrhenian railway line), Sibari (Ionic railway line) and Lamezia Terme.

Castiglione Cosentino → UniCal: Near the railway station, there is a bus stop of Consorzio Autolinee, which provides a direct connection to UniCal. To reach the bus stop, you need to walk through Via Edison, turn left and take Via Alessandro Volta. After a short walk (about 220 metres, 2 minutes), you will find the bus stop on your left. From here, you can take the city buses numbers 136 and 138 to the University. Both the station and the routes to reach the bus stop are indicated on the 8th AIROYoung Map.
By plane: the nearest airport is that of Lamezia Terme, which is connected to the cities of Rende and Cosenza and is also directly connected to UniCal by different types of buses. There are three options to get from the airport directly to UniCal. It is also possible to use the shuttle service, which will take you from the airport to the Lamezia Terme railway station to catch the train to Castiglione Cosentino.
By bus: the nearest bus terminal is the Autostazione in Cosenza, located in Via delle Medaglie d'oro. It is connected to the main cities in Italy by the national bus network and is also connected to the districts of Cosenza and UniCal by the urban bus service provided by Consorzio Autolinee.
The urban buses (tickets cost 1,20€) that go from this bus terminal to the University are number 136 and 138 (click here to see the bus timetable).

The place hosting the workshop is the University Club located in building (cube) 23B of the University of Calabria campus, marked with the green pin on the 8th AIROYoung Map.
The map also shows 9 car parks near the workshop venue. The nearest parking spaces are “Piazza Rettorato” car park (just one minute away from the venue), “Martensson” car park, “Monaci” car park, “Piazza Bianchi” car park.
From the main bus stops (named “Pensiline”) located at the entrance of the University, it is possible to easily reach the venue walking along Ponte Pietro Bucci to cube 28 (which is about halfway along the bridge). Close to UniCal “Pensiline”, there are different car parks, as the ones near the “Orto Botanico”, the ones near “Centro Residenziale” and the ones near the “Cubo Restaurant Café”.
Socrates Residences, surrounded by greenery in the University Campus, are located at short distance from the conference venue. Hereafter the directions and information for the Socrates area for grant winners:
Parking: there are two car parks close to the Socrates Residence, within easy walking distance (3 minutes): P2 - Socrates 1; P3 - Socrates 2.
Distance from the main bus stop UniCal: this is the point where all the buses to and from Cosenza and the surrounding area arrive and depart; it is easily reachable in just 5 minutes (500 metres) from the Socrates Residence.
Distance from the University Club: the conference venue is about 10 minutes’ walk from the Socrates residence, crossing the Ponte Pietro Bucci.
